What is Nodes?
Nodes is a collective of operators, founders, and investors. We like to invest in startups, build or own companies, and most importantly, learn and apply that knowledge to our craft.
We operate as a syndicate, and like to share our favorite reading and thinking with our community here on Substack.
Why subscribe and what to expect?
“Data is the new oil”, and Nodes is a refinery. At its core, Nodes is all about creating a differentiated information stream in an increasingly noisy world. We believe that we are only as good as the data we have at our disposal.
We (humans) read hundreds of articles on company building, angel investing, and self-management and curate the best ones into a weekly summary (called Tools for progress) — helping founders and operators stay on the top of their game.
We’ll also occasionally share original writing from members within Nodes, or directly from Matt and Shray.

Who writes this?
Matt Roberts and Shray Jain-Surana. Matt’s focused on all-things marketing at Linear and brings a wealth of leadership experience from roles at Stripe, Crowdcube, and Poppy, which was successfully acquired. He’s also the founder of Nodes Ventures.
Shray’s led product, bizops, and growth at startups and scale-ups, as a founder, early teammate at a YC-admitted startup, and a former product manager at Quantinuum. He’s currently hacking away in stealth mode.
